The Aboriginal Coaching Manual was developed by the Aboriginal Sport Circle (between the years 1994 - 1999), to provide culturally relevant reference material which would supplement the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) certification process.
It offers three modules to assist coaches working with Aboriginal athletes in understanding some of the issues influencing these individuals and their communities. The modules include:
- A Holistic Approach to Coaching
- Dealing with Racism in Sport
- Lifestyle, Health and Nutrition
The intent of these modules is to prepare you to address these issues. The modules focus on the following areas:
- Understanding the role of sports in Aboriginal communities
- Understanding and influencing the community in which you coach
- Coaching the whole person, coaching beyond the physical to include the mental (intellectual/emotional), spiritual, and cultural
- Responding to racism in sport
- Establishing a code of behavior for your team that respects differences and addresses racism
- Helping young people make healthy choices
